“So, we are at the point of 25% of my year gone. Week 12 has come to an end and what great fun it’s been.”
Twelve weeks has totalled 86 events. Cllr. Jones has covered 690,000 steps, totaling 265 miles, and met over 1000 people. “Lots more still to come, and I’m really looking forward to seeing more of what our organisations do, voluntary and charities do, and visiting schools and businesses,” said the Town Mayor. Cllr. Jones has been very lucky this week to receive generous donations to her raffles for upcoming events from several local businesses; “thank you so much to Tesco, Dunelm, Sainsburys.”
On Monday, Cllr. Jones was asked to help Coconut Garden, by delivering their Community Lunches to South Beds Dial-a-Ride. Coconut Garden are in their 30th year and are recognising this by delivering 30 lots of lunches to various organisations to say thank you for all that they do to help others. South Beds Dial-a-Ride aims to help people who cannot use a public bus service through reasons of disability, age, or social exclusion. The service is a personal, reliable, and friendly service to help maintain freedom and independence for those with a mobility issue. They also manage several public bus routes covering the surrounding villages that bring people into town and into our local communities. Find out more about Dial-a-Ride here.
Last week, Cllr. Jones attended several events, including visiting the local foodbank distribution and storage facilities. An interesting morning spent with the Deputy Town Mayor, being shown how each donation is dealt with when received. A team of over 100 volunteers cover this area – huge thank you to each of them.
On Friday, Cllr. Jones popped into Grove Corner to one of the Lego Workshops. “It was great to see 25 young people enjoying the challenges they were set,” she said. Some parents and grandparents certainly appeared to have more fun than the kids! There were four sessions during the day that saw over 100 young people come together.
The Town Mayor then went along to the official launch of the new MOT testing center at Thorn Turn and the Non Emergency Patient Transport Service. Both new services are managed by CBC and will provide services to residents.
She then presented our former Town Clerk, David Ashlee, with a gift from present and past Councillors as he left the role to enjoy retirement and time with his family.
Saturday was a great day on Ashton Square. Cllr. Jones spent a few hours walking about, speaking to residents, stall holders and shop owners before enjoying the entertainment from local groups.
Our final two brass band concerts of the summer took place on Sunday. “It was lovely to see those attending to listen to the music came with their refreshments or supported Anna’s Kitchen in aid of Bedfordshire Autism. A great afternoon in the sunshine,” said Cllr. Jones.
Over the last week or so, Cllr. Jones has had several residents and visitors to our events express their thanks for all that the Town Council does. The events that have been held this year have been so well received by so many and have played a real part in enabling families enjoy time together that have been free to residents. “Huge thank you, to the Community Services Team, who collectively, with the support of the wider Council teams deliver these events.”
